The DJC is reporting today that Fred Meyer is considering pulling the plug on a large scale project in the Greenwood area that was supposed to break ground this fall.  Their current two story building is seriously outdated and in need of either a huge remodel or complete scrap.  Although it was met with the usual concerns from the neighborhood, the project would have been a huge improvement over the current use.  The new format would have been a new 170k sf store with additional retail, housing and parking.  But now, it sounds like they have a different tune:

“Bryan Stevens of the city’s Department of Planning and Development said Fred Meyer representatives told DPD they now are looking at remodeling the existing store, but the city has not received a formal request from the company to revise the permit application.”

Whatever direction they decide to go in, hopefully, they will do so quickly!
